This gourd was selected for it's shape and natural beautiful colors.

The gourd drum is 13 1/2" wide, 13" long and covered with goat skin. The gourd was grown in southern California.

The large gourd was cut open and the inside was cleaned. Next the gourd was sanded, a light brown stain was applied. Next I applied brightly colored accents on the gourd, then the gourd was sealed.

The strong cord was wound around the gourd and through the goat leather I had prepared for covering the opening in the top of the gourd. The cord was pulled tight, stretching the leather taunt. Creating this drum from an organic gourd gave me a feeling of extreme pleasure as I sat down and begin to softly strike the leather with my hand, bringing the first sounds from the beautiful drum.
